Ronald Lee Wampner, 73, of Mexico, Indiana, passed away at Lutheran Hospital on April 18, 2022. Mr. Wampner was born on October 17, 1948 in Marion, Indiana. Ron lived his life in the Marion and Peru areas.
Ron was known for retiring from Foster Forbes (Ball Foster) Glass Company and also the owner of Safeway Taxi. Ron married Della Kaye Davis on July 3, 1981. Ron and his wife, Kaye, performed in a local band, Southern Haze, where Ron was the drummer. Many have said that Ron “blew everyone out of the water,” professionally and non-professionally, when he played the drum solo “Wipe Out." Ron enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, at times reminiscing over “old times.” Ron was known to be quite a character at times and deeply loved, respected and valued by those who knew him. Ron enjoyed spending time fishing with his wife, Kaye, and taking care of his truck “Big Red.”
He is survived by his daughter, Denay (Walt) Wandersee of Coral Springs, Florida; sons, Ron (Cathy) Wampner II of Marion, Indiana and Heath (Martha) Wampner of Boynton Beach, Florida; step daughter, Patty (James) Schaaf of Peru, Indiana; stepson, Shawn (Amanda) Mc New of St. Clair, Missouri; 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Ron also has one surviving brother, William (Dee) Wampner of Durango, Colorado, and two sisters Carolyn (Ed) Hileman of Marion, Indiana and Joyce Stevens of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Ron is proceeded in death by parents Fredrick Elsworth Wampner and Gertrude Laura (Biehl) Wampner Scott, brother James (Sarann) Wampner, sister Ruth Ann Wampner and brother-in-law Frank Stevens.
Ron served in the U.S Army.
A burial service will be held on Monday, May 9, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Marion National Cemetery, Marion Indiana. VAMC, 1700 E 38 th St., Marion IN 46953.
Services will be shared via Facebook Live for those who are unable to attend. Masks will be required at cemetery regardless of vaccination status.
