Maxine Evelyn Wyer

Maxine Evelyn Wyer, age 99, of Ligonier, IN, formerly of Sturgis, MI, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Elkhart General Hospital. She was born on April 23, 1923 to Virgil & Myrtle (Coulter) Wygant in Sturgis, MI. She married Lyle Wyer in 1953 at Sturgis United Methodist Church; he preceded her in death.

Maxine spent most of her life in the Sturgis area. She loved to make quilts, crochet, read, do word searches, play bingo and dominos. Most of all, she loved her family.

Mrs. Wyer is survived by her son, Gary Lee Lash of Lake City, MI; step-children, Jack S. (Betty) Wyer of Strugis, MI and Gloria Goosen of Coopersville, MI; grandchildren, Kathryn D. (Scott) Breyfogle of Ligonier, Tressa L. Jones of Ligonier, Virginia (Patrick) Rakowski of Wayland, MI, and Jeff Lash of Lake City, MI; seven step-grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; twenty step-great grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Alan (Lee Ann) Wygant of Athens, MI.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Mary Lou Jones; grandson, Douglas (Marilyn) Dee Wine; and brothers, Howard A. Wygant and Victor R. Wygant.

A graveside service will be held in Maxine’s honor at 2:30 pm on Saturday November 19, 2022 at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis, MI.
