Clifton Joe Hart

Clifton Joe “Poppy” Hart, age 83, of Dunlap, Indiana, passed away at 11:28 pm on August 3, 2022 at home.

He was born October 17, 1939, the son of Oscar R. Lillian F. (Myrick) Hart in Metropolis, Illinois. On October 4, 1958, he married Jeanne Badder.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jeanne Hart of Dunlap, Indiana; three children, Tonia (Rodney) Roberts of Middlebury, Indiana, Rod (Lori) Hart of Goshen, Indiana, and Kimberly (Lee) Adkins of Elkhart, Indiana; twelve grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two siblings, Willard Ernest and Bobette; and a great-grandson, J.T. Geyer.

Poppy raced stock cars locally for many years as “The Dunlap Destroyer” and was also well known for Poppa Joe Karaoke. He had also worked in the RV Industry and as a mechanic at Lochmandy Motors.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation will take place at Legacy Cremation & Remembrance Center.
