Mildred A. Weimer, 94, of Albion, passed away on May 27, 2016 at Chandler Place in Kendallville.
She was born on October 5, 1921 in Albion to William S.K. and Nettie (Barr) Weimer. She grew up on the family farm near Skinner Lake during the Great Depression, and was a 1939 graduate of Albion-Jefferson High School. Mildred proudly served her country during the Second World War with the Women’s Auxiliary Corps of the United States Army, being stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. Following her service, she returned home and worked for many years at the Albion Telephone Company and at Tokheim Corporation in Albion. She was a member of American Legion Post 246, Albion. Mildred cherished time spent on the farm and with her family, friends and neighbors.
Mildred is survived by two nieces, Karen Weimer of Davenport, IA, and Margie Thomas of Tallahassee, FL; her nephew, Von Klink of Tallahassee, FL; her nephew-in-law, George Bennett of Albion; two great nephews, Matthew Bennett of Albion, and Daniel Bennett of Millersville, MD; her great niece, Jessica Bennett of West Lafayette; her cousin and former caregiver, Linda Growcock of Albion; and sister-in-law, Mildred L. Weimer of Berne.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother R. Dale Weimer, her sister Maxine Klink, her niece Bonnie Bennett, and her nephew Bruce Weimer.
A memorial service to honor Mildred will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 4PM at the Sweet Cemetery located in Albion, IN. Memorials may be made to the Sweet Church Community Center, 3015 E 415 N, Albion.
